| Born in Rixdorf, Germany, Lee Lawrie is best known for his Art Deco stone relief sculpture and decorative work for many of the major Art-Deco building in the United States, especially Rockefeller Center in New York City. His massive sculpture, Wisdom, a combination of stone and glass and 22 feet in height and 14 feet wide, looms over the main entrance to the Center, and seen from Fifth Avenue, "provides drama and focus to the building."
