The following information was submitted in August of 2006 by the artist:
Linda Ray Lindeborg, born January 27, 1948 in Cambridge, Ohio. Linda Lindeborg did her undergraduate studies in studio arts at
Virginia's Madison College, now James Madison University. As two
dimensional studio work proved to be her forte, she continued her
education at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh with emphasis on
illustration and graphic design. What followed was a 25-year, award
winning career in commercial art until the time came for her to refocus
her energy and talent toward fine art. Linda and her husband Rik moved
from Atlanta to coastal Georgia in 1998 and she quickly gained a
regional reputation painting marine and coastal images, primarily in
watercolor. By 2002, she had expanded the focus of her painting to
include oil media works, rural southern images and abstracted multi
media works which maintain her signature contemporary realist identity.
Linda's interest in historic preservation led her to a series of high
profile and rewarding projects that propelled her fine art career. In
1995 she painted the Tybee Island Lighthouse, produced reproductions
and donated a portion of the print edition to the lighthouse. Thus
began her Coastal Beacons series of lighthouse images that has
generated thousands of dollars for restoration and preservation of the
structures. Two of Linda's Coastal Beacons prints were selected for the
collection of the US Department of the Interior. In 1997, she worked
with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources to create a painting
and prints of the Sapelo Island Lighthouse, a project that raised over
$60,000 toward that lighthouse restoration and earned praise from
Governor Zell Miller during the relighting ceremony in 1998. Linda's
rendering of the Tybee Island Lighthouse Head Keeper's Dwelling was
selected by the US Postal Service for the commemorative first day of
issue silk cache envelope at the Tybee Island release of 5 Southeast
Lighthouse Postage Stamps in 2003.
In addition to inclusion in juried exhibits, solo exhibits and gallery
representation, her “A Backroad Journey” exhibit will tour the
Southeast beginning in 2006. Reproductions of her works can be found
in framing galleries throughout the Southeast. Her works are in private
collections and in public collections which include The State of
Georgia, Seppeltsfield Winery (Australia), US Department of the
Interior, McDonald’s Corporation and Darby Bank & Trust Company.
Linda is honored to have been selected to create a painted sculptural
turtle for the first public art project for Tybee Island, Georgia. Her
“Terra Turtle” celebrates the Native American creation legend that the
earth was formed on a sea turtle's back.
"My artwork marries technique to an emotion charged response to the
environment. The landscapes and details are intended to create a
strong sense of place and time, exhibiting the effects of light and
atmosphere. I strive to capture each image with strength and
immediacy."
"I hope the viewer will pause a moment, bringing personal sensibilities
and memories to each subject, and discover therein whether the spirit
of place speaks. I want the viewer to feel a familiarity with the art
as though filtered through a memory."
"I paint in watercolor, oil and mixed media, clearly tending toward
realism but with occasional flights into abstraction. As a result of
my training and work as an illustrator, primary to all the work is my
commitment to craftsmanship and the enduring principles of design and
composition."
Her work is in the permanet collections of the Tybee Island Lighthouse and Museum, Tybee Island, Georgia, and the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum, St. Augustine, Florida
