This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Louise Lauritzen McCaslin was born in Fresno, CA on June 9, 1896. Early in life McCaslin spent summers in Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula where her first art teacher was William Adam. After graduating from Fresno State College, she earned a master's degree from UC Berkeley with further art study at the CSFA where she also taught costume design in 1917.

She then headed the art department at Santa Ana High School and Jr. College (1919-21) and was a designer for the movie industry. She taught at Fresno High School from 1942-57. Upon retirement, she moved to Pacific Grove where she designed the city emblem and painted scenes of the area around her home. She died in Pacific Grove on Feb. 28, 1985.
