Painter and illustrator Margaret Lefranc--born Marguerite Frankel--in Brooklyn, New York, March 15, 1907, changed her name in 1935. From the age of fourteen, she lived in Europe, studying art in Berlin, Germany, 1921-1922, at the Kunstschule des Westens, and, in 1922, the School of Lovis Corinth. Lefranc lived in Paris from 1924-1933. While there, she studied at the Academies Grand Chaumiere and Russe de Paris with Charles Bissiere, Andre Lhote, Basil Schoukaieff and Antoine Bourdelle.
