| | Born in Massachusetts on Jan. 8, 1844. Mary Knowles made the cross-country trek to California with her parents as part of the gold rush in 1852. While in San Francisco she studied at the School of Design. By 1884 she had married and settled across the bay in Alameda. Mrs. Lange died in Alameda on June 18, 1911. Her rare works include floral still lifes. Exh: Calif.
