This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Nikolay Tysland Leganger was an active landscape and portrait painter working in both New York City and Boston. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design (New York City) from 1877 to 1891. He also exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Association (New York) between 1871 and 1882. His work was represented at an important sale of paintings at Noyes and Blakeslee in Boston. In 1873 he exhibited at the Boston Art Club (Boston).

The date of his death is uncertain as some sources say 1894. However, a painting signed by him is dated 1896, and the Boston Art Club gives his death date as 1905.

Leganger was an impressionist who painted the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the Adirondack Mountains, Lake George and Bavaria, Germany.
