Ole Larsen  (1898 - 1984)
A free-lance animal artist and illustrator, Ole Larsen was born in Manistee, Michigan on January 20, 1898, the son of Frederick Carl and Augusta (Lemke) Larsen.  He studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts* from 1916 to 1921; at the Chicago Art Institute* in 1922; and in New York City at the American Academy of the Fine Arts* in 1946.  He married Helen Louise Rasmussen on February 27, 1943.

The artist specialized in paintings of animals and animal portraiture; illustrations for judging manual farm animals pictorially; and illustrations for medical circulars and pamphlets for veterinary medicine.
The artist had one-man shows in St. Louis; Pittsburgh; Chicago; Detroit; Lafayette, Indiana; Kenosha, Wisconsin; and Port Huron, Michigan.  In addition to numerous private collections, the artist is in the permanent collections of the Public Library, Michigan City, Indiana; The Riveredge Foundation Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and the Saddle Horse Museum, Hall of Fame, Lexington, Kentucky.

He won awards at the Kentucky State Fair, Louisville, 1938, and the Illinois State Fair, Springfield, 1955.  Larsen was a member of the Society of Animal Artists; the Austin, Oak Park River Forest Art League; and the Hinsdale Community Artists.  He lived for many years in La Grange and Hinsdale, Illinois but died in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1984.

This biography from the Archives of AskART:

He painted mainly dogs and horses and most of his known work is from the 1940's and 1950's.  Larsen painted dogs for a 1941 book showing each breed of dog and he did calendar art for the Gerlach Barklow Company of Joliet, Illinois.  Some of his paintings are on serving trays.
