Portrait painter Oliver Ingraham Lay was born in 1845 in New York City. His career is associated with both New York City and Stratford, Connecticut. Also a painter of genre pictures, like The Two Friends and Watching the Snow, Lay studied with Thomas Hicks, and at the National Academy of Design, and Cooper Institute, both in New York City. Fidelia Bridges was a close friend and mentor to Lay.
In 1876, he was elected an Associate of the National Academy. His portraits include those of pai (showing 500 of 1054 characters). |
