| Biography of Ossip L. Linde (pronounced Linda) (1871-1940) Submitted by Margaret L. Inglessis, his daughter
Short biography: Born in Rostov-on-Don, Russia in 1871. Naturalized in Chicago, Illinois in 1900. Married to Margaret Roper Aline Carey from Hamilton, Ontario in 1903. They lived in Paris the following eight years, where he studied painting:
Honorable Mention in Paris Salon 1907. Gold Medal in Paris Salon 1910. Settled in Westport, CT 1911. Died in Westport, CT 1940.
A prolific painter, he was well-known for his paintings of Venice and Bruges and for his Connecticut landscapes. A vivid personality, he was always in demand, exhibiting and lecturing across the country, encouraging communities to develop their artistic heritage.

| Born in Rostoff, Russia on Sept. 20, 1871. Linde arrived in Chicago in 1892. After studying at the AIC, he continued in Paris at Académie Julian under Laurens and at the Royal Academy in Munich (1903-11). Upon returning to the U.S., he settled in Westport, CT. There he bought an old farm house and a country schoolhouse for a studio. While based there he made painting trips to California and Europe. He died in Bridgeport, CT on April 30, 1940. His work includes landscapes, copies of Old Masters, European scenes, portraits, and seascapes. Member: Salmagundi Club; Allied AA; NY Society of Painters.
