Pierre Labrouche, etcher, engraver and landscape painter was born in Bayonne, France in 1876. From 1905 – 1914, he exhibited regularly at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, and also with the Société de la Gravure originale en couleurs.
Labrouche worked in the South of France, Flanders, Italy, Spain and Algeria. His mastery of light and shade was often compared to Gabriel Decamps and Claude Monet.
The First World War interrupted Labrouche’s career, and although he exhibited at the Salon of 1921, he faded from view in the post-war years. The last evidence of him as an active artist is the 1937 book, Navarre et Vieille Castille, by Abel Bonnard, which Labrouche illustrated with original etchings. He authored the book, Les Dessins De Ingres, which was published in 1950.
