| Born and baptized in Montreal, Canada, Pierre LeBer was known primarily for the decorative religious sculptures produced from his drawings but also for a posthumous portrait of Marguerite Bourgeoys, who died January 12, 1700. This work is the only painting authenticated as being done by LeBer. However, when the Bourgeoys painting was restored in 1963-1964, comparisons were made of his style to that of some unattributed paintings. These comparisons resulted in four oils on canvas, another portrai (showing 500 of 1335 characters). |
