Active in New Orleans from 1856 to 1858, Rudolph Lux is considered the premier porcelain painter and gilder working in New Orleans in the mid 19th century. He was born in Germany, and specialized in portraying prominent persons including Civil War figures on porcelain plates and cups.

Biography from Charleston Renaissance Gallery:
An important painter and gilder on china in New Orleans, Rudolph T. Lux (1815-1868) was born in Germany; but from 1856 until his death in 1868, he worked in New Orleans and established a notable artistic reputation.

Between 1861 and 1863, Lux painted portrayals of prominent military figures of the War Between the States, such as General P.G.T. Beauregard, General Benjamin F. Butler, General Nathaniel P. Banks, and Admiral David G. Farragut.
