The following, submitted July 2005, is from Sharon Obee on behalf of the artist.

Ruth Ava Lyons is a painter, muralist, community activist, mother and pioneer of Charlottes NoDa art district. A Fulbright Scholar, a BFA degree from Kent State University and an MFA degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Ms. Lyons has exhibited in over 100 exhibitions.

Her work is included in many museum, corporate and institutional collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, The Hearst Corporation and the New Orleans Museum of Art.

One of her large-scale commissions includes a mural, commissioned by the City of Charlotte, in the Charlotte Convention Center.
