This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following biography, submitted November 2004, is from the artist.

Born in Savona, Italy, Sandro Lorenzini received education in stage-design and then attended the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, Milan, where he worked as a stage designer in the theatrical environment until 1975.

After this period he worked exclusively as a sculptor, using ceramic, which he found to be ductile and expressive as a perfect media for his art. Starting from 1984, he went to the United States, invited by Peter Voulkos, to attend ceramic workshops at the University of California, Berkeley. Lorenzini was also a teacher at California State University, San Jose, for several years.

Beginning 1986, he experimented with the installation of large ceramic sculpture works in architectural and historical spaces, working on specific themes: Among these works are "Courses" (1986) Savona-Italy, "The House of Asterion" (1991)- Padova-Italy, "The House of the King" (1996)-Caserta-Italy, "Between Disperate and Sublime"(1999)- Faenza-Italy and "Space Regained" (2000)- Roccavignale-Italy.

His exhibition activity from the 1980s was very active with solo exhibitions in Italy, the United States, France, Germany) and China and Japan. He participated in many group exhibitions and international events and received public commissions in many countries including Italy, United States, China, Egypt and Japan.

He was also awarded several prizes in international exhibitions including "International Biennale of Contemporary Ceramics", Vallauris-France; "International Ceramic Competition" Mino-Japan; "International Exhibition of Ceramics" S.Stefano di Camastra-Italy; "Faenza Contest", Italy; and "Biennale for Ceramics", Cairo-Egypt.

Lorenzini created and directed important international exhibitions both in regional and international venues:
1990 "Ceramics from the New World" Savona-Italy
1995 "50 Italian Ceramists for Mostar" Savona-Italy
2001 "The Port of the Artists" Savona-Italy
2002-2003 "Art Along Seashore" Varazze-Italy,
2003-2004 "Jingdezhen China Celebration 2004" China).
