This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Although wildlife artist Susan Labouri has drawn since she was a child she considers herself more an animal lover who paints rather than an artist who paints animals.

Labouri grew up in Big Bear Lake in southern California. When she was in her 20s she went on a vacation to New Zealand and did not return for 18 years. During that time she lived in Australia, sailed the South Seas for five years and lived on the island of New Caledonia.

Upon her return to the United States she attended the Jackson Hole Artist Workshop in Wyoming. It was there that she met artist Terry Isaac, a major influence on her work. She met the other another great influence, artist Bob Kuhn while she was the artist-in-residence at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona.

Labouri has earned many awards and honors including twice being selected for the Birds in Art competition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin, first place award from a show at the Phippen Museum in Prescott, Arizona and being the featured artist at the 2004 Wildlife Art Festival in San Bernardino, California.

Susan Labouri is a member of the Society of Animal Artists.
