Biography from Red Raven Gallery:
A native Midwesterner, Susan Lynn has traveled throughout the Midwest and the West gathering subject matter. Painting primarily with transparent watercolor, her paintings depict the natural landscape, drawing subject matter from her own photographs and on-site sketches. While she uses these as her starting point, her compositions are more often an interpretation of the landscape, rather than a strict depiction, and reflect her fascination with viewing pristine, untouched land.

There is little more than an occasional fence post to indicate any human presence in her work. Susan Lynn's current series of paintings have departed from her previous more traditional, realist work, and have entered into a realm of heightened, abstracted colors. The unique qualities of transparent watercolor lend the paintings a sense of luminosity that cannot be duplicated with any other media. Forgoing the more common method of glazing layers of transparent watercolor to build value and chroma, she prefers to instead apply the paint with intense, pure color, often allowing areas of color to bleed into one another to create color and textural transitions that echo those found in nature.
