| A commercial artist and painter of atmospheric landscapes, Walter Loos was born in Switzerland and emigrated to the American continent, going first to Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, Canada where he tried farming. In 1908, he took a job with the Great Northern Railway, and in 1924, settled in San Francisco where he spent 20 years as a commercial artist.
Then he lived in Sebastopol, California and became a fine-art painter. In 1924, he exhibited with the San Francisco Art Association.
