The following information was submitted in April of 2006 by Michael Patnode:

William F. Lydston, Jr. was born in Newburyport, MA, May 31, 1813, to William and Mary (Collins) Lydston.  He moved to Boston and married Nancy Young, who died in 1840.  He then married Sarah Hamilton of Philadelphia in 1841.  He was a portrait painter who ran a shop on Court Street. in Boston and also painted miniatures.  He served in the Civil War as a musician and later played trombone with the orchestra of The Boston Museum (a theater).  He died Sep. 8, 1881 and is buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mattapan, MA.
