| Abraham A. Meripol was born in Kiev, Russia on Oct. 14, 1885. Meripol (né Meripolski) immigrated to Milwaukee as a child. He studied art at Smith's Academy in Chicago and with Robert Heule in Indianapolis. During 1910-13 he was active in San Francisco and then settled in Los Angeles. There he was kept busy with full-size portraits and miniatures for members of the movie colony including Charlie Chaplin. While on a portrait commission in Salt Lake City, he died of a heart attack on July 28, 1 (showing 500 of 774 characters). |
