This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A painter, art teacher, photographer and restorer, Andres Molinary was born in Gibraltar, and settled in New Orleans in 1872 after studying in Rome at San Lucas Academy, Spain at the Fine Art Academy of Seville, and in East Africa and Morocco.   He also traveled in Mexico and Central America.

In New Orleans, he joined an uncle, John Brunasso, who was in the importing business.  His family wanted him to join the uncle in business, but instead, with the help of this uncle who believed in his talent, he set up a studio and painted portraits, many of them of prominent persons in New Orleans and other southern cities.

Andres Molinary became very active in the local art community, and his studio was a popular gathering place for local artists.  He was a founding member of the Artists' Association of New Orleans, the Southern Art Union, and the Cup and Saucer Club

Exhibition venues included the Southern Art Union, Cotton Centennial Exposition and the Delgado Museum of Art.

He was married to Marie Madeleine Seebold, also an artist.
