The following was submitted October 2005 and modified March 2006 by the artist who lives in Virginia at Big Walker Mountain:

While growing up in West Virginia, Barbara Glenn Meadows-May gained a great love for wildlife and beautiful scenery.  Before moving to Virginia, Barbara lived alone in Colorado for 10 years.  Her log cabin was located at 9500 feet near the Spanish Peaks in the southern part of the state.  While living there she observed and studied wildlife up close and personal.  Each day was presented with a new adventure especially learning how to live with the American Black Bear.  Many hours were spent sketching and taking photographs of a mother black bear and her cubs during the summer of 1995.  Ten years later Barbara has finished over twenty paintings of the black bears that her life became so intertwined with while living in Colorado.
 
While living in Oklahoma in 1971 Barbara began serious training under two professional artists, Robert Lougheed and James Boren and soon began pursuing her own career in professional painting.

In 1983 Barbara illustrated her only book, titled “Weld County Old and New” a chronology from 1836-1983.
 
Since 1988 twenty nine paintings have been featured in The West Virginia Wildlife calendar through the Department of Natural Resources, with three cover paintings in 1989, 1995, and 2005, the 2005 features the American Black Bear.
 
Barbara has three sons, Jeffery, David, Brent and three grand-daughters.
