Born in Modesto, California, Betty Mougin Nickol is a painter of bright, colorful floral landscapes and still lifes and marine scenes, often in acrylics. She also makes serigraphs.

Nickol maintains her studio in Mishawaka, Indiana, but has traveled widely including to Mexico, France, and New York City. A substantial part of her time is spent in Mexico, where her work is quite well known.

During the 1970s, she was represented by Merrill Chase Galleries, in Chicago as well as other galleries in Indiana (Goldberg Fine Art in Indianapolis), Illinois, Michigan and Ohio.

Nickol has been a student in the 1960s of Zygmund Jankowski and also of Edward Herrman in South Bend, Indiana.
