Beverly Jean McIver, an artist and teacher, known for her
expressionist, often sexually explicit portrait paintings, grew up in
Greensboro, North Carolina where, as an African-American, she was bused
to the more affluent schools of white students.
She studied psychology at North Carolina Central University but by the
third year, changed to being an art major. She also began
dressing herself up in clown-face make up, and doing self
