Born January 7, 1854 in Stuttgart, Germany, Carl Mauch became an impressionist painter in Chicago, Illinois.
Mauch studied at the Stuttgart Academy with Karl Theodor von Piloty, Heinrich Franz Gaudenz von Rustige and Karl Albert Buehr. His early interest in art, however, was interrupted at the age of 16 when he served in the German army during the Franco-Prussian War, 1870-1871.
Following his military service, he returned to painting and continued his studies in Munich, Paris, and (showing 500 of 2194 characters). |
