This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| A resident of New York City between 1835 and 1877, Catharine Mears was "listed as an artist and artist-teacher until the
forties when she apparently opened a boarding and day school.
Mrs. Mears' school on Madison Avenue was still flourishing when she
retired or died about 1877, and it continued under the direction of
Louisa Mears, who was probably her daughter."
In 1839, a floral painting and a pencil drawing was exhibited at the Apollo Association.
