Born in Philadelphia, Charles McIlhenney was a painter and etcher who settled in Shrub Oak, New York. He was a member of the New York Water Color Society and exhibited with that group as well as at the Boston Art Club, the Pennsylvania Academy, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
Awarded W.T. Evans Prize, American Water Color Society, 1892; First Hallgarten Prize, National Academy, New York, 1893.
