Biography from Auctionata:
Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data compared to the extensive information about American artists.

Christian Ferdinand Andreas Mølsted was born in 1862 in the Danish Dragør as the son of a shipbuilder and fisherman.  In 1879, he completed his education and traveled in 1890 on a frigate to England, Madeira and Russia.  Then Mølsted began studying at the Art Academy in Copenhagen, where among others the painter Carl Bloch, Julius Exner and Gustaf Vermehren were his teachers.

Mølstedt specialized in marine painting.  In particular, his paintings, with historically detailed research and vividly depicted battles, made him famous.  Later, he also created genre pictures.  His studio in Dragør today serves as a museum and shows many of his works. (fea)
