Clarence Rudolph Mattei was born on Nov. 13, 1883 in San Francisco, CA. Mattei spent most of his life as a resident of Santa Barbara. He studied art at the Mark Hopkins Institute (1900-02) and in Paris at Académie Julian under Laurens (1907-10). He died in Santa Barbara, CA on April 2, 1945.
