| | Claude S. Maybelle was born in Portland, Oregon in 1872. During the 1890s Maybelle studied at the San Francisco School of Design and then was a cartoonist for the Chronicle and Examiner. By 1907 he had settled in New York City and was affiliated with the Brooklyn Eagle. He was still in New York City in 1930. | Source:
