A painter, Doris Johnson was born in Oakland, CA on December 8, 1907. After graduating from Anna Head School in Berkeley, Doris Miller began art studies at the Rudolph Schaeffer School of Design in San Francisco and continued at the California College of Arts and Crafts and UC Berkeley.
She wed Gardiner Johnson in 1935, and was founder and teacher of Saturday Morning Art Classes for Children sponsored by the Art League of the East Bay at the Oakland Museum (1939-52).
