This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Douglas Eugene McClellan was born in Pasadena, CA on October 10, 1921.  McClellan studied at Art Center School in Los Angeles and obtained his master of fine arts at Claremont Graduate School.  He further studied at Colorado Springs Fine Art Center under Boardman Robinson and Jean Charlot.  He was an associate professor at Chaffey College in Ontario, California from 1950 and later founded the art department at the University of California in Santa Cruz.

Exhibited:  Library of Congress, 1948; San Francisco Museum of Art, 1949, 1952; Los Angeles County Fair, 1949, 1953; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 1949, 1950, 1952, 1955; Metropolitan Museum, 1950; California Watercolor Society, 1953; Corcoran Gallery of Art, 1953; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, 1953; National Orange Show, 1954 (award); Pasadena Art Museum, 1954; Carnegie Institute, 1955; West Coast Biennial, 1955; Los Angeles Art Ass’n, 1950s. 

Works held: Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Pasadena Museum.
