Douglas Eugene McClellan was born in Pasadena, CA on October 10, 1921. McClellan studied at Art Center School in Los Angeles and obtained his master of fine arts at Claremont Graduate School. He further studied at Colorado Springs Fine Art Center under Boardman Robinson and Jean Charlot. He was an associate professor at Chaffey College in Ontario, California from 1950 and later founded the art department at the University of California in Santa Cruz.
