Born in 1853, he became an illustrator for newspaper and magazine stories in Harper's Weekly, the New York Times, Frank Lesley's Illustrated Newspapers, and others. Meeker also created illustrations for books and and postcards, as well as watercolor paintings. He lived in New Jersey most of his life, maintaining studios in Newark and New York City. Edwin James Meeker died in 1929, and was buried in Rosedale Cemetery in East Orange, New Jersey.
