| Eleanor B. McFarland Mitchell was born in Pittsburgh, PA on Sept. 19, 1868. The McFarland family settled in San Francisco in 1876. Eleanor studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute under Arthur Mathews and continued in Paris with Raphael, Collin, and Merson. After her marriage to William Mitchell, she lived in San Francisco until her death on Feb. 19, 1926.
