This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Elizabeth Burger Monath was born in Vienna to Emma Burger and Dr. Karl Burger. She was known for intaglio, painting of animals and landscape, book writing and illustration. She moved from her native Austria to Paris in 1930 to study art in a city artistically vibrant with such talents as Picasso, Braque and Leger.  The legendary Fernand Leger took Monath under his wing.  In 1936, she married Paul Monath, and they had two sons, Thomas and John and a daughter Elsie.

She wrote and illustrated a book, Topper and the Giants about a young man, his dog and a giant living in an Alpine village.

Towards the end of her life, she lived in Newark, New Jersey with her daughter, Elsie and family.

Her work is in the collections of the British Museum,  the United Nations Headquarters, Princeton University, the New Jersey State Museum, and others.  Monath studied at the Academy of Fine and Applied Art in Vienna, and the  Graphische Lehr und Versuchsanstalt, also in Vienna.   She studied with Fernand Leger and Amadee Ozenfant in Paris, and with Moses Soyer in New York City.
