Emily Mary Rutherford Mocine was born in New Zealand on March 11, 1884. Emily Rutherford studied at Technical College in Sydney. She settled in Los Angeles in 1906 and established a studio where she taught woodcarving as well as at the YWCA and Architectural Club of Arts & Crafts. She soon married artist Ralph Mocine and was active in the local art scene until her demise on Jan. 1, 1957.
