This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following information is from Randall Gove, grandson of the artist.

Erwin Manheim

Birth 1 Nov 1898 in Przemsyl, Poland

Death 26 June 1989 in New York, New York, United States of America

On 12 July 1921 he married Ethel Greenstein in Bronx, New York, United States of America

On 22 Nov 1908 he traveled from Austria to New York on the ship named Amerika.

On 31 Oct 1943 it says he was in the U.S. Navy on the USS Windsor.  My father said his father was a surveyor using his artistic talent.

In 1926 my research shows him in Cook County, Illinois.  In 1928 I find him in St. Louis, Missouri.  In 1929, I found him in Santa Cruz, California.

According to my father, his father left his wife (Ethel) and child (Mitzi) and started traveling.  In 1938 my research shows him in New York again.  After meeting Elizabeth Hester Gove, they had three children together without getting married.  The first child was Lenore Elizabeth, born 29 Nov 1926 in Cook County, Illinois. The second child was Erwin Huntington, born 28 Mar 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri. The third child was my father, Charles Allen born 31 Aug 1929 in Santa Cruz, California.

When Elizabeth Hester Gove died in 1934, Erwin Manheim went back to his wife and child in New York. I do not show him returning to New York until 1938, but I am still investigating that. The three children were raised by their grandmother who changed their last names to hers, which was Gove.

His wife, Ethel died in Bolinas, California in 1970, and their daughter, Mitzi ,died in January of 2014 in New York.

I know he visited many towns displaying his art.

San Francisco has lots of his art all over.

He lived in Bolinas, California in the 1970s, and I remember his house and studio vividly.

This biography from the Archives of AskART:

A painter of portraits, and land-and seascapes, he had a studio in Bolinas north of San Franciso in the 1950s.  His studio was located right in the crease of the valley, full of light from the north wall, which was almost entirely glass.

Information courtesy of Jarrett Griffin who was ca. eight years old  when Erwin Mannheim painted his and his brother's portrait at the studio in Bolinas.
