| Felix Angel Mathews was born in Tangier, Morocco in 1833. Mathews was a resident of New York in 1853 and, in that year, became a U.S. citizen. As a member of the U.S. Navy, he arrived in San Francisco in 1855 and was stationed at Mare Island under Admiral Farragut. After resigning from the Navy, he married Perpetua Concessa Berryessa in 1859 and was a resident of Martinez, CA. Following service in the Union Army during the Civil War, he was appointed American Consul at Tangier by President (showing 500 of 760 characters). |
