This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Working for the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, Fielding Bradford Meek was a paleontologist and illustrator who did illustrations for the Railroad Survey Expedition report of W. W. Whipple, 1856, and for James Dana's Manual of Geography, 1863.

For Whipple, which was part of the Pacific railroad survey through Indian territory, across Texas, New Mexico, Arizona past the San Francisco Mountains to California, he did illustrations that included fossil drawings.
