A sculptor and art teacher born in Long Beach, California, Forrest
Myers settled in Brooklyn, New York. A signature work is his titled
"The Wall" (1974) is regarded as the gateway to the SoHo district in
Manhattan. In the late 20th century, it became the subject of
controversy because it was allowed to deteriorate and some persons
wanted to destroyed and replaced by advertising. In October, 2000, the
Landmarks Preservation Committee voted to keep it and maintain it.
