| Painter. Born in London, England on July 27, 1865. MacKenzie studied in his native city at the Royal Academy where he won the Turner gold medal and a traveling fellowship, and then continued in Paris at Académie Julian. He went to South Africa (his mother's birthplace) as a young man and participated in the first Matabele rebellion in the establishment of Rhodesia and in the Boer War. While in Rhodesia he was a member of the exploring party which located the great Wankle coal field. He came to t (showing 500 of 1048 characters). |
