| Born in NYC on Nov. 23, 1897. Monhoff moved to Los Angeles as a child. After serving in the U.S. Navy in WWI, he graduated from UC Berkeley in 1921 and studied art with Armin Hansen. His earlier oils and watercolors are representational but those done after the 1930s are more abstract. He did 44 etchings, many of the Southwest and Indians. He was an instructor at Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles (1926-50) and at the Pasadena Art Institute (1959). Monhoff died in Calistoga, CA on Oct. 11, (showing 500 of 1208 characters). |
