Frederick Roland Miner was born in New London, CT on Oct. 28, 1876. Miner studied at the Art Students League in NYC under John Carlson.
After arriving in southern California in 1897, he had a studiohome in Pasadena. A peripatetic artist, he made many trips back to the East Coast to paint and study. He received criticism from William Wendt while painting in the Sierra. He authored and, with his own photographs and paintings, illustrated the book Outdoor California in 1923.
