George McAdams was the younger brother of artist, Ruth McAdams. He was born in Brooklyn, New York where he attended figure drawing classes at Pratt Institute. Shortly after World War II, he began painting landscapes on a regular basis.
He studied with Peconic Bay Impressionists Joseph Beckwith Hartranft and Madeline Bassarear. McAdams was a founding member of the Tuesday Art Club with Hartranft, John Kaelin, Gilbert Miner and Larry Waitz. As a result of his education at the Pratt Institute, Mcadams became a skilled draftsman. He also occasionally made wooden toys and sculptures.
