Gilbert Margeson, a marine painter, was born in Nova Scotia and became known as the Dean of the Rockport Colony, where he was a long-time member of the Rockport Artist Association and in 1873, was the first artist to set up a studio in Rockport on the eastern shore of Cape Ann. Painting was a part-time job for Margeson in Rockport as he also ran a stationery store and was the tax collector in the early (showing 500 of 958 characters). |
