| Grace Emmajean McKinstry was born in Fredonia, NY on Feb. 11, 1857. McKinstry grew up in Faribault, MN.
From the Minneapolis School of Art she studied at the Art Students League in NYC, Art Institute of Chicago, and in Paris at Academies Julian and Colarossi and with Raphael Collin. While maintaining a studio in her home in Faribault, she traveled widely in the U.S.
After 1915 she had studios or visited in the California cities of San Diego, La Jolla, Laguna Beach, Pasadena, and Hollywood. A spinster, she died in Minneapolis, MN on Nov. 26, 1936.
Member: American Artist Professional League; American Federation of Arts; National Arts Club (New York City); SF Women Artists.
Exh: World's Columbian Expo (Chicago), 1893; San Francisco Art Association, 1923; Berkeley League of FA, 1924; Calif. Industries Expo (San Diego), 1926.
