| Gracia Moncrieff Melanson (1932-2004) professor emeritus at the Rhode Island School of Design where she was the first woman to receive a master's degree in painting from RISD.
An award-winning painter, she exhibited work at the Providence Art Club, Boston art festivals and at local galleries in the Boston area.
In 1964, she was awarded the Louis Comfort Tiffany Fellowship in Painting.
Memberships included the Providence Art Club, the RISD Museum and the Providence Athenaeum.
Her formal studies began at the Brooklyn Museum (age 9), and one of her serigraphs was included in the 1950 National Print Show (age 17). |
