Born in Indiana on Feb. 24, 1868 of Danish parents, Gustav Magnussen studied art in Europe. He was a resident of San Francisco in 1900 and about 1902 settled in Los Angeles.
During the 1930s he had a studio on Balboa Island in Newport Harbor.
He died in Balboa, California on Sept. 23, 1944. His rare works include landscapes, portraits, and miniatures.
