Born in Des Moines, IA on Sept. 2, 1887, Harold Miles studied at the Cumming School of Art in Des Moines, Académie Colarossi in Paris, and with J. Francis Smith.
Before coming to Los Angeles about 1918, he taught at the University of Iowa for a few years. He continued teaching at the Chouinard and Otis Art Institutes, Los Angeles Jr. College, and Hollywood High School.
