Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 5, 1891, Helen Van Cleve studied at the Boston Art School under Bela Pratt (1915-18); the Grande Chaumière in Paris; UC Berkeley (1926-28); Art Institute of Chicago; and with Eva Withrow and Cora Boone.
During the 1920s and 1930s, she was a resident of Berkeley, California, and from 1940s-1962 of Pacific Palisades, California.
She died in Santa Barbara, CA on June 15, 1975.
As well as an artist, she was also the author-illustrator (showing 500 of 1072 characters). |
