This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following, submitted October 2005, is from the artist:

Hernan Miranda was born in Conception, Paraguay in 1960.  Although he never studied art at any fine-arts academies, as an adolescent he attended several drawing work shops.  He has developed a Chiaroscuro technique for the tonal value scale of his paintings.

His art career began publicly in 1987 with his first art exhibition, after earning an award in drawing at a contest held by The “Magister Art Gallery in Asuncion. Since then he has been a prolific painter.

Obsessed by the Light of the “Tenebristas” painters, Miranda has studied the works of Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Vermeer and the compositions of Sanchez Cotan, Morandi, and especially Antonio Lopez.

Miranda not only seeks “Visual Effects” but also “Visual Affection” with elements through which the viewer can find easy communication and at the same time stimulates his visual perception.  Upon studying the forms and colors of the composition the artist considers “light” as being the protagonist of his paintings.

At present Miranda is developing the “Bi-Realism series” which consist of integrating the support (wood panel, canvas, paper, pasteboard, etc.) into the painting while conserving the visual aesthetics and then bringing together the real and the “virtual” reality.

From 1993 to 1997, he taught painting at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Asuncion, (National Fine Arts School).

Since 1998 he has taught realistic painting at his private studio and has given seminars at many institutions relating to the study of art.
